How much of the city can you pack into a basket? Yes, it does overflow. The folks at city-based social collective City Ninjas are attempting to contain Mumbai in a basket at their day-long pop-up event called Mumbai Tokri, to be held on February 23, 2014 at Bandra’s newest culture hub, The Hive.
Mumbai Tokri is a platform where artists across the city will gather to share their thoughts on the city through “spoken word, music, photographs, videos,” according to Anisha Sharma from City Ninjas. While all the performances have been curated for the day based on submissions that were sent in over the past month, Mumbai Tokri will also feature an art show, food stalls and Mumbai’s finest culture conduits gather to feed, entertain and fill your own baskets with interesting stuff.
In Sharma’s own words, “It’s going to be a jam-packed Sunday, starting with an art workshop for kids, the curated Mumbai Tokri performances, stalls like Bombay Trooper, Postcard People and Jai Ranjit exhibiting their work, food by Amrita Rana of the OMG Bacon Jam fame, Gostana and Baking Tray.”
There will also be performances by singer/songwriter Nikhil D’Souza, comedian Aditi Mittal and theatre troupe Making Noise.
The final flow of events will be as follows:
12:30 – 1:30 PM: Art with Jai ‘Zaiu’ Ranjit
2:00 – 3:00 PM: Curated Performances (i.e the best submitted entries)
3:15 – 4:00 PM: Meet the Tokri
4:15 – 4:45 PM: Aditi Mittal
5:00 – 5:45 PM: Making Noise (Theatrical monologues)
6:00 – 6:30 PM: Nikhil D’Souza
