Q-1. What keeps your music swag?
It’s this unquenchable thirst for good music and what it does to people. Music is uplifting, it’s my high.
Q-2. You held fort as the Resident DJ at Zenzi for 4 years? What are the things that you learnt from your time there?
Yeah, I was the resident DJ at Zenzi from 2007 till it shut down in 2011 also also at Zenzi Mills for a year till it shut. During my residency, the most important thing I learnt was being versatile in terms of mixing various genres. And also the art of doing an opening set.
Q-3. Can you take us through your music journey from when you first started DJing till now?
In 2004, started off as a Freelance DJ playing at several private events / parties, then in 2007 got a chance to work at Zenzi as a Resident DJ with Kris Correya through my Sir Jo Azaredo. It was Zenzi where I was noticed and I started getting gigs at most of the good venues all across India. I have also collaborated and performed with a number of Indian and International DJs, Producers and Musicians like B.L.O.T, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Shiva SoundSystem (U.K), Funk D’Void (Barcelona), Ravi Chari Quartet and many other vocalists, percussionists and musicians.
In 2012, I had a short stint at F Bar Mumbai as their resident DJ. In 2012 I earned a spot at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender by winning the nation-wide Pepsi Dub Station DJ Contest. In 2013, I joined Bonobo as the resident DJ where I spin once in a week. In 2014, I became a part of Raman Mahadevan’s Indian Classical Electronica Band Ragalicious and Performed at Storm Festival in Bangalore.
Q-4. Some of the best gigs and the worst gigs you’ve played?
Best Gigs : In 2008 , my first Big Bass gig For Bhavishyavani.In 2012, the Dubstation Stage at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune. In 2013, the Earthdance India Festival, Mumbai. In 2014, Storm Festival, Bangalore as Ragalicious Band [ Raman Mahadevan On Vocals, Rasika On Flute, Song on Bass, Amul On DJ Console]
The worst gig I’ve played at was at Blue Lounge in Indore.
Q-5. Are you working on anything new that you can talk about?
Yeah. It’s Funk Assassin’s Debut EP, which should come out soon
Q-6. What will you be playing at Beat Blender?
A mix of Big Beat Classics and Funky Breaks.
