Two years after releasing the Grammy-nominated Deutsche Grammophon album `Traveller`, Anoushka Shankar returns with the stunning new single `Traces Of You`, taken from her forthcoming album of the same name. The album is a confluence of Indian & Western instrumental with some vocals, and is a remembrance to her father Pandit Ravi Shankar. The two city concert is put together by Bliss Entertainment who will host the leading figure in world music in Mumbai and New Delhi in the second week of December 2013.
The urge to build bridges flows through sitar star Anoushka Shankar’s veins. The daughter of legendary sitar master Ravi Shankar, she was raised straddling east and west, moving between London, Delhi and California. A dedicated acolyte of her father who has immersed herself in classical Hindustani music, Anoushka has forged an independent identity by collaborating with a vast array of artists. Based on her latest single which sets to mark a new chapter in Anoushka’s career, defining her creative vision and punctuating her unique instrumental career., the program features an all-star cast of Indian classical and flamenco, electronica, jazz, and Western classical music musicians, reconnecting the shared, centuries-old roots of Western and Indian sounds. Combining the syncopated drama of the West with the melodic sophistication of the East, Anoushka Shankar takes the latest bold step in a world music legacy.
The Grammy award winner states, “I am very excited to be coming to India. I will travel to the sub-continent to promote my latest single. It’s going to be a memorable trip as this is my first visit to India after Zubin was born. All this couldn’t have happened without the folks at Bliss Entertainment.”
Anoushka Shankar returns to the forefront of ‘Progressive World Music’ with the release of her highly anticipated seventh studio album entitled “Traces Of You”. Produced by long time friend and critically acclaimed multi musician and composer Nitin Sawhney, “Traces Of You” is inspired by the idea that everything in the universe leaves an indelible mark, or a subtle “trace” on everything it comes into contact with. Featuring appearances by her half-sister Norah Jones, noted Hang exponent Manu Delago, world-reknowned percussionists Tanmoy Bose and Pirashanna Thevarajah, and others. Ground-breaking as ever, Anoushka debuts a breathtaking new musical union, pairing the sitar with the intricate sounds of a relatively new instrument the Hang Drum, played by it’s foremost exponent Manu Delago. Three forms of love, love for her father, her husband, and her son, proved to be the ultimate inspiration for some of the deepest and most personal music Anoushka has yet written.
Bliss Entertainment has been responsible for Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan concerts in India.
