Former Channel V VJ Sophiya Haque, who rose to stardom in the 1990s, passed away earlier today in London. The Brit Asian actress and model was receiving treatment for pneumonia in a London hospital.
Haque started her VJing career in the early 1990s when MTV first launched in India. She later moved to Channel V and hosted several late night music and countdown shows. She also compered Channel V’s first show on Bollywood releases called “The Ticket.”
In recent years, Haque had moved back to UK and had become a keen theater actor. She appeared in several West End productions such as “The Far Pavilions,” “Bombay Dreams” and “Wah Wah Girls.”
