In “Dabangg”, director Abhinav Kashyap took an original story, slapped a late 1980′s or early 1990′s technique with just the right amount of masala, to give you a blockbuster that chooses not to draw inspiration (heavily) from our western peers. Now, we’re not Salman bhai fans (yes we do exist), but Maa kasam we jumped out of bed to rush and watch “Dabangg” first day, first show.
Cut to “Dabangg 2″ that is being directed by chothe bhai Arbaaz Khan (why) who has replaced “Zandu Baam” with “Fevicol” (setting the tone for ‘branded item songs’ promoting popular brands like Rupa (baniyaan)/Parle G (biscut)/Bata (chappal)/Amul (maska)- to name a few - in the subsequent Dabangg installments) and you have a trailer that draws so heavily from the first movie that it leaves you with nothing to look forward to other than a plump Mrs. Chulbul Pandey (Sonakshi Sinha). Only time will tell if this new director and the same formula does justice to our favourite Robin Hood, Inspector Pandey.
