Muti-tasking has been the winning mantra for most actors this year. Endorsements apart, a host of them are fast foraying into lifestyle segments particularly on the World Wide Web. The latest to join hands with a fashion portal is actor Bipasha Basu who has been roped in by The Label Corp as creative director of their accessories retail site, The Trunk Label. The e-commerce specialists already have Sussanne Roshan curating products for their home decor label and Malaika Arora Khan for clothing. The fashion accessories website spearheaded by Basu offers a selection of bags, shoes and jewellery, all “hand-picked” by the actor. Interestingly, the actor feels she was “destined” to do this. “There’s nothing I find quite as exciting as being a part of something that allows me to share sensibility of glamour and style, and making it accessible to everybody,” says Basu.
Having started out in the modeling industry at a very young age, the actor feels her exposure to the fashion world puts her in a better position to understand style. “I believe that every woman wants to show herself off, and since putting your best self forward and expressing yourself through your style every single day can seem overwhelming, that’s where I step in,” she lists out on the website.
The portal design is smart and easy but what really got us excited is the fact that the products are pocket-friendly. Be it a sequined envelope bag or a pair of matching glittery flats, it’s all well within budget. Add to that “Daily Edits” by Bips of her choice for the day. “At The Trunk Label, I have put together accessories that I would wear myself,” says the actor who wants to make style “accessible to everyone”. And for someone who saved up pocket money as a youngster to splurge on accessories, Bipasha admits she’s happy to be dishing advice on the same. “What I love most about accessories is that it is the final touch. You can wear a simple white top with jeans, but dress it up with a statement necklace or some killer heels. They really have that power of completing your look and expressing who you want to be that day. My mantra is: Whoever you are today, always make a statement,” says Basu who has earlier rolled out fitness DVDs and also a signature line for Reebok. The Trunk Label, adds Basu, will add new products to the catalogue every month and also dish out lookbooks on how to get it right. We are liking this one for sure.
