Alien Chutney is the brainchild of well-known stand-up comedian Vir Das who has coined the term “Comedy Rock”, a fantastic fusion of comedy and music. Think of it as the by-product of a one-night stand between a punch line and a chord. Think of it as the illegitimate spawn of a joke and a melody. Think of it as something that makes you laugh as well as hum.
India’s premiere comedy-rock band consists of Vir Das, Sidd Coutto (Tough On Tobacco, Zero), Warren Mendonsa (Zero)Kaizad Gherda (Supersonics) and Gaurav Gupta (Tough on Tobacco, Ghalat Family, Blackstratblues). Alien Chutney, have performed to sold out shows across several venues in the country. They were also on Star World’s New Year Special ‘RIPping the Decade with Vir Das.
Their first live album released September 2011. It’s a high energy, comedy experience with strong musical chops. It’s completely arbitrary and yet entirely relatable, unexpected and yet familiar. It’s alien, and yet, its still chutney!
