Preview: Inferno Metal Fest India

Obliteration and Nekromantheon from Norway to headline two-gig tour

Following the pattern of massive metal bands coming to India from overseas, Inferno Metal Fest India, which is under the aegis of Inferno Metal Fest Norway shall see its debut this year on February 15-16, 2014 at Kingdom Of Dreams, Gurgaon and Counter Culture, Bengaluru respectively. The festival sees it’s running this year not only a first in India, but Asia on a whole. While both the gigs shall be headlined by Nekromantheon and Obliteration, both from Kolbotn, Norway, the Delhi leg of the gig shall see local extreme metal outfit Undying INC. and Devoid from Mumbai, while the Bengaluru gig shall see sets by Inner Sanctum, The Down Troddence and Theorized, all from the same city.

Nekromantheon

Nekromantheon has been playing thrash from around 2005 now, and have been thrashing it out right since they started. The three-member thrash outfit is composed of Arild aka Arse on guitar and vocals, Christian aka Kick on drums and Sindre aka Stressminister on bass and vocals. The band, in its nine-year long career yet, have released three splits, two full-length albums and an EP. Thematically, the band revolves around Greek mythology, death and the certain bit of social issues.

OBLITERATION

Obliteration, which first started playing in 2001, is a death metal band and has Sindre Solem on vocals, Arlid Myren Torp on guitar, Didrik Telle on bass, and Kristian Valbo on drums. The band have to their credit three albums, two EPs, one split and a demo. Their lyrical themes revolve around blasphemy, death and gore.

Formed in 2008, Undying INC. can definitely be counted among the most respected and technically savage extreme metal bands from this country. The band members include Reuben Bhattacharya on bass, Biswarup Gupta on guitars, Shashank Bhatnagar on vocals and Nishant Hagjer on drums. The band has so far released two albums, two EPs, a split, and only recently, the single Ironclad. Violence personified through their music, lyrically the songs are based on aggression and war.

In its tenth year now, Devoid are considered among the tightest and most aggressive bands to have ever come out of Mumbai. Arun Iyer on vocals and rhythm guitars, Sanju Aguiar on lead guitars, Shubham Kumar on drums and Abhishek Kamdar on bass guitar make this war machine  of thrash and death work for them in such a way that it pummels adrenaline right into your face. The band have earlier released an EP and a full –length album. Themes in their music include war, anti-establishment and religion-bashing.

Bengaluru’s death thrash Inner Sanctum have been making music since 2007 and the band members include Chintan Chinnappa and Suraj Gulvady on guitars, Abhishek Michael on bass, Abhinav Yogesh on drums, and Gaurav Basu on vocals.  The band have one EP to their credit, and uses misanthropy, religion and chaos in its lyrical scheme.

The Down Troddence is a thrash death outfit originally from Kerala, but now set up in Bengaluru. Formed in 200, the band’s six members include Nezer Ahemed on bass, Advaith Mohan on guitars, Varun Raj on guitars, Sushin Shyam on keyboards,Munz on vocals, and Ganesh Radhakrishnan on drums. The band have one full-length album to their credit until now.

Formed back in 2005, Theorized is yet another thrash metal outfit from Bengaluru city. The four member band is composed of Sankalp Narayanan on bass, Yash Kumar on drums, Madhav Ayachit on vocals and guitars, and Ankit Suryakanth on guitars. While the band has one album to its credit, lyrically, the band follows the themes of death, darkness and personal struggles.
