Agnya
Agnya is a fusion band from Mumbai. It is the coming together of sound, eclectic musicians to fuse Indian ragas with various genres of music. To create soundscapes. To experiment. Agnya was formed in 2011 by Santosh Jayaram (Electric Veena and Classical vocal) and Amrit Kapoor (Guitar) after realising they enjoyed experimenting and combining diverse eclectic sounds from across the eastern and western worlds.
Bassist Gurdip Singh Narang soon joined the band and has played a key part in bringing in the ‘ambient’ sounds to their music, whilst the drummer Mayank Sharma, coming from the ‘underground’ (metal) scene brought in the killer ‘rock’ grooves.
At the band’s core is the desire to collaborate and create heart-felt melodies inspired by each of their own individual backgrounds. The result is a melting pot of genres, sounds and influences from all across the musical spectrum. The band flirts with genres like jazz, blues, classical and western.
